This definitive stamp set issued by the Government of Transjordan in 1947 features portrait stamps of Emir Abdullah I bin Hussein, the founding ruler of the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan. The six stamps, denominated 3, 4, 10, 12, 15, and 20 mils, display the Emir in traditional Arab headdress within an ornate decorative frame bearing Arabic calligraphy and geometric designs. Each stamp includes 'TRANSJORDAN' in English at the bottom, with Arabic text identifying the ruler and country. The portrait shows Abdullah I as a distinguished middle-aged man with a beard, wearing the traditional keffiyeh, symbolizing his role as both Arab leader and monarch. This issue served the everyday postal needs of Transjordan during a crucial period in the country's development, two years before it would be renamed the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 1949. The set was also produced with specimen varieties, featuring the word 'SPECIMEN' perforated in a distinctive horseshoe pattern with 67 holes, following the established cataloging types for Jordanian specimen stamps. These definitive stamps remained in use during Abdullah I's reign until his assassination in 1951.
