Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This commemorative set of five stamps was issued by the Government of Jordan in August 1949 to mark the 75th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the international organization founded in 1874 to coordinate postal policies worldwide. The lower four denominations (1 mil through 20 mils) feature an identical design showcasing various forms of transportation and communication that enabled global postal connectivity - a train crossing mountainous terrain, an airplane in flight, and a steamship on water, all arranged around a central globe bearing the UPU emblem and anniversary dates 1874-1949. The highest value 50 mils stamp honors King Abdullah I, Jordan's founding monarch, presenting his portrait as the centerpiece of this important philatelic tribute. This issue reflects Jordan's participation in the international postal community during the early years of the Hashemite Kingdom, demonstrating the country's commitment to global postal cooperation. The stamps are printed in different colors - brown, green, carmine, blue, and dull green respectively - while maintaining consistent Arabic and English inscriptions identifying the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من خمسة طوابع في أغسطس 1949 للاحتفال بالذكرى الخامسة والسبعين لتأسيس الاتحاد البريدي العالمي، المنظمة الدولية التي تأسست عام 1874 لتنسيق السياسات البريدية على مستوى العالم. تحمل الطوابع الأربعة ذات الفئات المنخفضة (من 1 مل إلى 20 مل) تصميماً موحداً يعرض أشكالاً متنوعة من وسائل النقل والاتصال التي مكّنت الربط البريدي العالمي - قطار يعبر تضاريس جبلية، وطائرة محلّقة، وباخرة بخارية على الماء، كلها مرتبة حول كرة أرضية مركزية تحمل شعار الاتحاد البريدي العالمي وتواريخ الذكرى 1874-1949. يكرّم الطابع ذو الفئة الأعلى 50 مل الملك عبد الله الأول، الملك المؤسس للأردن، حيث يعرض صورته كمحور لهذا التكريم الطابعي المهم. تعكس هذه الإصدارة مشاركة الأردن في المجتمع البريدي الدولي خلال السنوات الأولى للمملكة الأردنية الهاشمية.
