Inauguration of 1st National Parliament
ذكرى تأسيس المجلس النيابي
This commemorative set of nine stamps was issued by the Government of Transjordan on November 1, 1947, to celebrate the inauguration of the first National Parliament, marking a significant milestone in the constitutional development of the Hashemite Kingdom. The stamps feature an identical design across all denominations, depicting the newly constructed Parliament building in Amman with its distinctive modernist architecture. The building is shown as a symmetrical two-story structure with a central entrance featuring multiple doors, flanked by wings with regularly spaced windows, set against a stylized striped background. Each stamp bears Arabic text commemorating the establishment of the National Assembly, along with the dates 1946-1947 (corresponding to 1366-1367 in the Islamic calendar), and includes both Arabic and English inscriptions identifying 'Trans-Jordan' as the issuing authority. The set was produced in nine different denominations ranging from 1 mil to 200 mils, each printed in a distinct color scheme while maintaining the same architectural design. The issue also includes 19 imperforate varieties distributed as souvenirs. This stamps series represents an important moment in Jordanian parliamentary history, documenting the kingdom's transition toward greater democratic governance under the Hashemite monarchy.
