Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This commemorative set of nine stamps was issued by the Government of Transjordan on May 25, 1946, to celebrate the country's independence from the British Mandate. The stamps feature a distinctive design showcasing the map of Transjordan with symbolic elements including a soaring eagle representing freedom, and a torch symbolizing enlightenment and progress. The Arabic inscription at the top includes Islamic calligraphy, while the bilingual text identifies the stamps as "TRANSJORDAN POSTAGE." Each denomination displays the same patriotic design in different colors, ranging from 1 mil to 200 mils, reflecting the standard postal rates of the period. The set includes variant imperforate versions of the 1 mil and 2 mils stamps that were distributed as souvenirs. This issue represents one of the earliest expressions of Transjordanian national identity in philatelic form, marking the transition from mandate territory to independent kingdom under Emir Abdullah I. The symbolic imagery celebrates the nation's sovereignty while the Arabic text emphasizes its cultural heritage and Islamic identity.
