Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This commemorative set was issued by the Government of Jordan on August 11, 1977, to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of King Hussein's accession to the throne. King Hussein ascended to the throne on August 11, 1952, making 1977 the 25th anniversary of his reign. The six stamps showcase Jordan's national development achievements under Hussein's leadership, featuring modern transportation with an airliner over a ship, industrial progress through factories and a fertilizer plant, military defense capabilities with ground-to-air missiles, religious heritage represented by a mosque, and technological advancement through satellite communications. Each stamp displays the royal coat of arms prominently, symbolizing the monarchy's role in Jordan's modernization. The souvenir sheet features the silver jubilee emblem surrounded by stylized Jordanian flags. This issue reflects the significant transformation Jordan underwent during Hussein's first quarter-century of rule, from a developing nation to a modern state with advanced infrastructure, industry, and technology while maintaining its cultural and religious identity.
