This six-stamp commemorative set was issued by the Government of Jordan in 1956 to mark the 1st Arab Postal Congress held in Amman. The congress represented a significant milestone in Arab postal cooperation and communication infrastructure development across the Middle East. Each stamp features an identical design depicting a ceremonial envelope bearing the Jordanian coat of arms at its center, flanked by two circular postmarks. The left postmark reads "THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN 1373-1954" in English, while the right postmark displays Arabic text with corresponding dates. The envelope design symbolizes the postal unity and cooperation among Arab nations that the congress sought to establish. The stamps were issued in six denominations (1, 4, 15, 20, 50, and 100 Fils) in different colors including brown, carmine, blue, olive bistre, indigo, and orange red. The bilingual nature of the postmarks reflects Jordan's position as a bridge between Arab heritage and international communication. The set also includes six imperforate varieties mounted on presentation cards. This issue demonstrates Jordan's active participation in pan-Arab initiatives during the 1950s and its commitment to modernizing postal services across the Arab world.
