This commemorative set of three stamps was issued by the Government of Jordan through its Ministry of Post & Communications on January 1, 2002, to celebrate Amman's designation as the Arab Cultural Capital for 2002. This prestigious designation, awarded by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), recognized Amman's rich cultural heritage and its role as a modern center of Arab culture. The 100 fils stamp features the event's official emblem alongside Jordan's national colors, symbolizing the country's pride in hosting this cultural celebration. The 200 fils stamp depicts a torch and pen, representing the illumination of knowledge and the written word as pillars of cultural expression. The 300 fils stamp combines the cultural capital emblem with Amman's famous Roman amphitheater, linking the city's ancient archaeological treasures with its contemporary cultural significance. Each stamp bears Arabic and English text identifying Amman 2002 as the Arab Cultural Capital, emphasizing Jordan's commitment to promoting Arab cultural unity and intellectual exchange throughout the region.
أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية من خلال وزارة البريد والاتصالات هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من ثلاثة طوابع في الأول من يناير عام 2002 للاحتفال بتعيين عمان عاصمة للثقافة العربية لعام 2002. هذا التعيين المرموق، الذي منحته المنظمة العربية للتربية والثقافة والعلوم (الألكسو)، اعترف بالتراث الثقافي الغني لعمان ودورها كمركز حديث للثقافة العربية. يحمل الطابع فئة 100 فلس الشعار الرسمي للحدث إلى جانب الألوان الوطنية الأردنية، رمزاً لفخر البلاد باستضافة هذا الاحتفال الثقافي. يصور الطابع فئة 200 فلس مشعلاً وقلماً، يمثلان إضاءة المعرفة والكلمة المكتوبة كركيزتين للتعبير الثقافي. يجمع الطابع فئة 300 فلس بين شعار العاصمة الثقافية والمدرج الروماني الشهير في عمان، رابطاً كنوز المدينة الأثرية القديمة بأهميتها الثقافية المعاصرة.
