Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This definitive set features portraits of Emir Abdullah I ibn Hussein, who ruled Transjordan from 1921 until his assassination in 1951, just before this issue. The Government of Jordan issued these overprinted stamps on February 26, 1952, during a period of transition following Abdullah's death and the brief reign of his son King Talal. The 27 stamps show Abdullah wearing traditional Arab headdress in a formal portrait style, with 'TRANSJORDAN' printed at the bottom. Each stamp bears overprints converting the original mil denominations to the new fils currency system that Jordan was implementing. The overprints appear in various colors - red, black, and green - creating both regular issues and notable varieties including inverted overprints, double overprints, and pairs with one stamp lacking overprint entirely. The stamps were produced in different perforation gauges (12 and 13.5) and various colors including red brown, green, yellow green, carmine pink, yellow orange, and blue. This set represents an important transitional period in Jordanian postal history, marking both a currency change and the end of the Abdullah era. The 27 variant records document the various overprint errors and perforation differences that occurred during production.
