Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This 2018 overprinted stamp set showcases Jordan's rich archaeological heritage under the theme 'Cradle of Civilizations.' Originally issued in 1999-2000, these six stamps were reissued by Jordan Post with new surcharge overprints changing the denomination from 200 Fils to 20 Piastres. The set features iconic historical sites that demonstrate Jordan's central role in ancient civilizations: the majestic Roman columns of Jerash, the Byzantine church at Mount Nebo where Moses viewed the Promised Land, the Ayyubid fortress of Ajloun Castle, the Hellenistic ruins of Pella, the Umayyad desert palace of Kharaneh, and the Roman amphitheater of Umm Qais (ancient Gadara). Each stamp is beautifully framed with ornate decorative borders that echo traditional Islamic artistic motifs. This reissue reflects Jordan's ongoing commitment to promoting its archaeological treasures and UNESCO World Heritage sites, highlighting the kingdom's position as a crossroads of civilizations where Nabataean, Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic cultures flourished.
