This commemorative set of three stamps celebrates Umm Qais, one of Jordan's most significant archaeological sites and part of the ancient Decapolis. Issued by the Government of Jordan in April 2000 as part of the 'Cradle of Civilizations' series, the stamps showcase the remarkable ruins of ancient Gadara, a Greco-Roman city that flourished as a center of philosophy and culture. The set depicts the site's most impressive architectural remains: the striking arches and columns that demonstrate Roman engineering prowess, the well-preserved amphitheater carved into the hillside that once hosted theatrical performances, and the scattered columns and stone blocks that hint at the city's former grandeur. Umm Qais, strategically positioned overlooking the Jordan Valley and Sea of Galilee, represents the rich cultural heritage that makes Jordan a crossroads of civilizations. Each stamp features an ornate decorative border reminiscent of Islamic geometric patterns, creating an artistic bridge between Jordan's ancient past and cultural identity.
تحتفل هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من ثلاثة طوابع بأم قيس، أحد أهم المواقع الأثرية في الأردن وجزء من المدن العشر القديمة. أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه الطوابع في نيسان 2000 ضمن سلسلة 'مهد الحضارات'، وتعرض الطوابع بقايا مدينة جدارا اليونانية الرومانية القديمة التي ازدهرت كمركز للفلسفة والثقافة. تصور المجموعة أهم المعالم المعمارية للموقع: الأقواس والأعمدة المذهلة التي تظهر براعة الهندسة الرومانية، والمسرح المحفور في سفح التل والذي استضاف العروض المسرحية، والأعمدة والكتل الحجرية المتناثرة التي تشير إلى عظمة المدينة السابقة. تمثل أم قيس، الواقعة في موقع استراتيجي يطل على وادي الأردن وبحر الجليل، التراث الثقافي الغني الذي يجعل الأردن ملتقى الحضارات.
