This three-stamp set celebrates the ancient city of Jerash as part of Jordan's 'Cradle of Civilizations' series, issued by the Government of Jordan in October 1999. تحتفل هذه المجموعة المكونة من ثلاثة طوابع بمدينة جرش الأثرية ضمن سلسلة 'مهد الحضارات' التي أصدرتها الحكومة الأردنية في أكتوبر 1999. تمثل جرش، المعروفة قديماً باسم جراسا، واحدة من أفضل المدن الرومانية المحافظ عليها في الشرق الأوسط وتقف شاهداً على التراث الأثري الغني الموجود في جميع أنحاء الأردن. تعرض المجموعة الآثار الرومانية الرائعة التي تجعل من جرش وجهة سياحية رائدة وموقعاً مرشحاً لقائمة التراث العالمي لليونسكو. يعرض كل طابع منظوراً مختلفاً لأبرز العناصر المعمارية للمدينة الأثرية - الشوارع ذات الأعمدة والأعمدة الشاهقة ومجمعات المعابد المتقنة التي نجت عبر ألفي عام تقريباً. تدمج الحدود الزخرفية لكل طابع أنماطاً هندسية إسلامية تقليدية، مما يخلق جسراً فنياً بين التراث اليوناني الروماني القديم للأردن وهويته الثقافية الإسلامية.
