أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من ثلاثة طوابع في 20 أغسطس 1974 بمناسبة العام العالمي للسكان 1974، وهي مبادرة أممية هدفت إلى رفع الوعي العالمي حول قضايا السكان والتحديات الديموغرافية. خصصت الأمم المتحدة عام 1974 لتركيز الاهتمام الدولي على النمو السريع للسكان العالميين وتأثيراته على التنمية والموارد والتخطيط الاجتماعي. يحمل كل طابع في المجموعة شعار العام العالمي للسكان الرسمي - رمز يشبه العجلة أو الزهرة المنمقة محاطة بأغصان الزيتون، يمثل السلام والوحدة في معالجة الاهتمامات السكانية العالمية. يظهر الشعار بألوان مختلفة عبر الفئات الثلاث، بنفسجي على فئة 5 فلس، أحمر على 10 فلس، وبرتقالي على 20 فلس. تتضمن الطوابع نصوصاً عربية وإنجليزية تحدد المناسبة التذكارية، مما يعكس مشاركة الأردن في هذه الحملة الدولية المهمة.
