Issued on Christmas Day 1970 by the Government of Jordan, this four-stamp set celebrates Christmas through depicting sacred sites in Bethlehem associated with the birth of Jesus Christ. The stamps showcase interior views of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, one of Christianity's most venerated sites and traditionally believed to be built over the exact birthplace of Jesus. Each stamp captures a different aspect of this ancient basilica: the Grotto of the Nativity where Christ is believed to have been born, a Christmas crib display, the ornate crypt altar, and the main nave of the church itself. The Church of the Nativity, originally built by Emperor Constantine in the 4th century and later rebuilt by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century, represents one of the oldest continuously operating churches in the world. This philatelic tribute reflects Jordan's role as custodian of important Christian holy sites and demonstrates the kingdom's commitment to protecting and honoring the religious heritage of all faiths within its borders. أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه المجموعة المؤلفة من أربعة طوابع في يوم عيد الميلاد المجيد عام ١٩٧٠ احتفالاً بعيد الميلاد من خلال تصوير المواقع المقدسة في بيت لحم المرتبطة بمولد السيد المسيح عليه السلام. تعرض الطوابع مناظر داخلية من كنيسة المهد في بيت لحم، وهي من أكثر المواقع المسيحية قداسة ويُعتقد تقليدياً أنها بُنيت فوق المكان الدقيق لمولد السيد المسيح. يسجل كل طابع جانباً مختلفاً من هذه البازيليكا القديمة: مغارة المهد حيث يُعتقد أن المسيح وُلد، وعرض لمهد عيد الميلاد، ومذبح الكنيسة المزخرف، والممر الرئيسي للكنيسة نفسها. تمثل كنيسة المهد، التي بناها في الأصل الإمبراطور قسطنطين في القرن الرابع وأعاد بناءها الإمبراطور جستنيان في القرن السادس، إحدى أقدم الكنائس العاملة بشكل مستمر في العالم. يعكس هذا التكريم الطابعي دور الأردن كحارس للمواقع المقدسة المسيحية المهمة ويظهر التزام المملكة بحماية وتكريم التراث الديني لجميع الأديان ضمن حدودها.
