This twelve-stamp set issued by the Government of Jordan on June 25, 1974, celebrates the Dead Sea region, one of the world's most unique geographical and archaeological areas. The stamps showcase both the natural beauty and historical significance of this lowest point on Earth's surface. The designs feature scenic views including camel caravans crossing the desert landscape at sunset, palm trees along the pristine shoreline, and modern hotel developments on the coast, reflecting Jordan's growing tourism industry. The set also highlights the region's immense archaeological importance through depictions of ancient cylindrical pottery jars and copper scrolls from the Qumran caves, where the famous Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, and cistern steps at the Qumran archaeological site. These artifacts represent one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 20th century, providing invaluable insights into ancient Jewish religious practices and early Christianity. The stamps are printed in vibrant multicolored designs with decorative geometric borders typical of Jordanian postal issues of this period, emphasizing both the natural wonders and cultural heritage that make the Dead Sea region a treasure of Jordan's national patrimony.
