King Hussein Definitives
الملك الحسين بن طلال
This definitive set of 12 stamps featuring King Hussein bin Talal was issued by the Government of Jordan on April 8, 1975, serving as the country's regular postage stamps for everyday mail. The stamps present a formal portrait of King Hussein in military uniform, photographed in a three-quarter pose that became iconic during his reign. Each stamp features the same central portrait printed in indigo blue, surrounded by an ornate decorative border with Arabic calligraphy at the top identifying the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The design incorporates traditional Islamic geometric patterns in the border frame, while the denomination and 'POSTAGE' appear in both Arabic and English at the bottom. The stamps are distinguished by their colorful borders - ranging from green and violet in the lower values to brown tones in the higher denominations. Two of the higher values (60 and 100 fils) are designated for airmail use. This set reflects the stable monarchy of King Hussein, who ruled Jordan from 1952 to 1999, and demonstrates the consistent postal identity of the Hashemite Kingdom during the mid-1970s. The formal military portrait emphasizes the King's role as commander-in-chief and head of state.
