This Tourism set of five stamps was issued by the Government of Jordan on August 7, 1971, showcasing the country's diverse tourist attractions and religious heritage. The stamps highlight Jordan's unique position as guardian of holy sites and natural wonders, featuring both Christian pilgrimage destinations and remarkable landscapes. The 5 fils stamp depicts the serene shores of the Dead Sea with traditional Bedouin figures and camels, emphasizing Jordan's desert heritage and the world's saltiest body of water. The 30 fils commemorates the magnificent Ed Deir (Monastery) at Petra, carved into rose-red cliffs by the ancient Nabataeans. The 45 fils shows the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem's Old City, the traditional path of Christ's crucifixion, reflecting Jordan's role as custodian of Christian holy sites until 1967. The 60 fils features the Jordan River with its peaceful banks and traditional boats, the biblical waterway central to Christian baptismal traditions. The 100 fils displays a Christmas bell overlooking Bethlehem, celebrating the birthplace of Christianity. This set effectively promoted Jordan as a destination for both religious pilgrimage and cultural tourism during the early 1970s.
