This commemorative set of six stamps and one souvenir sheet was issued by the Government of Jordan in October 1965 to honor the historic Gemini 4 space mission of American astronauts James McDivitt and Edward White. The mission, which took place on June 3-7, 1965, was notable for achieving America's first spacewalk, performed by Edward White. The stamps are overprints of Jordan's 1964 Tokyo Olympics issue, featuring a rocket launch design with Olympic rings symbolizing international achievement. Each stamp displays the names 'James McDivitt / Edward White' along with the mission date '2-6-1965' overprinted in black. The original Olympic-themed design creates an interesting philatelic connection between space exploration and international sporting excellence. The set represents Jordan's recognition of this milestone in human space exploration during the height of the Space Race between the United States and Soviet Union. The varying denominations from 10 to 100 fils showcase the rocket and launch platform against backgrounds of different colors, while the Olympic rings remain prominently featured, creating a unique thematic blend of space achievement and Olympic ideals.
