Anti-Tuberculosis Campaign
The Anti-Tuberculosis Campaign stamp set was issued by the Government of Jordan on May 17, 1966, as part of a global public health initiative to combat tuberculosis. This comprehensive set comprises 6 stamps and 2 souvenir sheets, along with 7 variant records including surcharged and imperforate versions. The stamps feature a portrait of King Hussein in traditional Arab headdress alongside symbolic imagery promoting the fight against tuberculosis. Each stamp displays the UN emblem surrounded by wheat stalks, representing the connection between nutrition, agriculture, and health in disease prevention. The central design incorporates Arabic text and various agricultural symbols including livestock silhouettes and farming implements, emphasizing the role of proper nutrition and rural health in tuberculosis prevention. The wheat motif particularly symbolizes the 'Freedom from Hunger' campaign that was closely linked to anti-tuberculosis efforts during this period. The stamps were issued in three denominations (15, 35, and 50 fils) with matching souvenir sheets featuring both gold and white backgrounds. Additional surcharged variants were later produced, reflecting Jordan's continued commitment to this important health campaign. This issue represents Jordan's participation in international health initiatives during the 1960s under the leadership of King Hussein.
