This commemorative set of four stamps and one souvenir sheet was issued by the Government of Jordan on October 5, 1965, to honor King Hussein's diplomatic visits to France and the United States. The stamps document significant moments in Jordan's international relations during the Cold War era, showcasing the young monarch's efforts to strengthen ties with major Western powers. The 5 fils and 50 fils values feature King Hussein in military uniform alongside the United Nations emblem and headquarters building in New York, emphasizing Jordan's commitment to international cooperation. The 10 fils stamp commemorates the meeting between King Hussein and French President Charles de Gaulle, with the iconic Eiffel Tower prominently displayed. The 20 fils value depicts the historic encounter between King Hussein and U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, symbolized by the Statue of Liberty. These diplomatic visits were crucial for Jordan's foreign policy, as the kingdom sought to balance its relationships with both Arab neighbors and Western allies while maintaining its position in the volatile Middle East. The set includes both perforated and imperforate varieties, reflecting the postal administration's practice of producing collector variants during this period.
