This commemorative set of three stamps was issued by the Government of Jordan on August 1, 1964, to support UNESCO's International Campaign to Save the Nubian Monuments. The campaign was launched in response to the construction of the Aswan High Dam in Egypt, which threatened to flood numerous ancient archaeological sites in Nubia, including the famous Abu Simbel temples. The stamps feature identical designs showing the colossal seated statues of Ramesses II at Abu Simbel, carved into the rock face of the temple facade during the 13th century BCE. These magnificent monuments, with their imposing pharaonic figures wearing the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt, represented one of ancient Egypt's most spectacular architectural achievements. The international rescue effort, coordinated by UNESCO, successfully relocated entire temples piece by piece to higher ground, saving them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. Jordan's participation in this philatelic campaign demonstrated the kingdom's commitment to preserving world cultural heritage. The three denominations (4, 15, and 25 fils) feature the same artistic representation in different color schemes, making this set both a tribute to ancient Egyptian civilization and a symbol of international cooperation in cultural preservation.
هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من ثلاثة طوابع أصدرتها الحكومة الأردنية في الأول من أغسطس 1964 لدعم الحملة العالمية لليونسكو لإنقاذ آثار النوبة. أُطلقت هذه الحملة استجابة لبناء السد العالي في أسوان بمصر، والذي هدد بإغراق العديد من المواقع الأثرية القديمة في النوبة، بما في ذلك معابد أبو سمبل الشهيرة. تحمل الطوابع تصاميم متطابقة تُظهر التماثيل الجالسة الضخمة للملك رمسيس الثاني في أبو سمبل، المنحوتة في واجهة المعبد الصخرية خلال القرن الثالث عشر قبل الميلاد. هذه المعالم الرائعة بتماثيلها الفرعونية المهيبة التي تحمل التاج المزدوج لمصر العليا والسفلى، مثّلت واحدة من أروع الإنجازات المعمارية لمصر القديمة. نجحت عملية الإنقاذ الدولية التي نسقتها اليونسكو في نقل المعابد بأكملها حجراً حجراً إلى مكان أعلى، منقذة إياها من مياه بحيرة ناصر المتصاعدة. مشاركة الأردن في هذه الحملة البريدية أظهرت التزام المملكة بالحفاظ على التراث الثقافي العالمي.
