أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من ثلاثة طوابع في الأول من مارس 1967 للاحتفال بالعقد الهيدرولوجي الدولي (1965-1974)، وهو برنامج علمي عالمي ترعاه اليونسكو مخصص لتطوير أبحاث المياه وإدارتها. تأسس العقد الهيدرولوجي الدولي لتعزيز التعاون الدولي في الدراسات الهيدرولوجية وتحسين إدارة الموارد المائية وتعزيز فهم دورة المياه العالمية من خلال البحث العلمي والتعليم. يحمل كل طابع في هذه المجموعة الشعار الرسمي للعقد الهيدرولوجي الدولي، والذي يصور أمواج مياه مُنمقة تتدفق حول دائرة مركزية، ترمز إلى الحركة المستمرة والأهمية الحيوية للمياه في النظام البيئي العالمي. يُعرض الشعار على خلفيات بألوان مختلفة - الأحمر والفيروزي والبنفسجي الزاهي - مما يخلق سلسلة مذهلة بصرياً تؤكد مشاركة الأردن في هذه المبادرة العلمية الدولية المهمة.
