This 2007 commemorative set celebrates the ancient Nabataean city of Petra, Jordan's most famous archaeological site and UNESCO World Heritage treasure. The six stamps showcase diverse aspects of Petra's cultural heritage, from intricate stone sculptures and painted ceramics to magnificent rock-cut architecture. Featured are a carved stone face demonstrating Nabataean sculptural artistry, decorative ceramics with traditional motifs, detailed stone relief work including grapevine sculptures, vibrant frescoes from Siq al-Barid (Little Petra), the dramatic natural rock formations that define the site's landscape, and the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh), Petra's most photographed monument. The accompanying souvenir sheet presents the Treasury in an elegant imperf format. Jordan Post issued this set to promote Petra's archaeological significance and boost cultural tourism, highlighting why this 'Rose City' remains one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and Jordan's premier tourist destination.
