Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This commemorative set of three stamps was issued by the Government of Jordan on February 15, 2000, to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Geneva Red Cross Conventions of 1949. The Geneva Conventions established fundamental humanitarian laws governing the conduct of armed conflict and the protection of civilians, wounded soldiers, and prisoners of war. As stated in the brochure, when war breaks out, logic is often absent and human relations may deteriorate, but these international laws serve to alleviate human suffering and protect persons and property not involved in hostilities. Jordan's issuance of this set reflects the kingdom's commitment to international humanitarian law and its recognition of the Geneva Conventions' crucial role in establishing rules and principles that must be respected even in times of conflict. Each stamp in the set features the emblem of the International Committee of the Red Cross (Comité International Genève) alongside the Jordanian flag, symbolizing Jordan's support for humanitarian principles. The stamps were designed by Egyptian artist Mohieldin Labbad and printed using offset lithography. A strip variant combining all three denominations was also produced, bringing the total to four catalogue records for this humanitarian-themed issue.

أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من ثلاثة طوابع في 15 فبراير 2000 للاحتفال بالذكرى الخمسين لاتفاقيات جنيف للصليب الأحمر لعام 1949. وضعت اتفاقيات جنيف القوانين الإنسانية الأساسية التي تحكم سير النزاعات المسلحة وحماية المدنيين والجنود الجرحى وأسرى الحرب. كما ذكر في الكتيب، عندما تندلع الحروب غالباً ما يغيب المنطق وقد تتدهور العلاقات الإنسانية، لكن هذه القوانين الدولية تهدف إلى تخفيف المعاناة الإنسانية وحماية الأشخاص والممتلكات غير المشاركة في الأعمال العسكرية. يعكس إصدار الأردن لهذه المجموعة التزام المملكة بالقانون الإنساني الدولي واعترافها بالدور الحاسم لاتفاقيات جنيف في وضع القوانين والمبادئ التي يجب احترامها حتى في أوقات النزاع. يحمل كل طابع في المجموعة شعار اللجنة الدولية للصليب الأحمر إلى جانب العلم الأردني، رمزاً لدعم الأردن للمبادئ الإنسانية.
