Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Issued by Jordan on the first anniversary of the martyrdom of Mohammed Al-Durrah, this commemorative set honors the 12-year-old Palestinian boy whose killing by Israeli gunfire in Gaza on 30 September 2000 became one of the most powerful and enduring symbols of the Second Intifada. The widely broadcast footage showing Mohammed and his father Jamal desperately seeking shelter shocked millions across the world and came to embody the suffering of Palestinian civilians living under occupation.

The stamps portray Mohammed with his father and incorporate the Dome of the Rock, linking his memory to the Palestinian national cause and the significance of Jerusalem. Through this issue, Jordan expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and commemorated a child whose death galvanized public opinion throughout the Arab world and beyond.

More than a memorial issue, these stamps represent Jordan's condemnation of violence against Palestinian civilians and its continued support for Palestinian rights. They remain among the most politically significant and emotionally charged commemorative stamps issued by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

أصدرت المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية هذه المجموعة التذكارية في الذكرى السنوية الأولى لاستشهاد محمد الدرة، الطفل الفلسطيني البالغ من العمر اثني عشر عاماً، والذي أصبح مقتله برصاص القوات الإسرائيلية في غزة بتاريخ 30 أيلول 2000 أحد أبرز رموز الانتفاضة الفلسطينية الثانية وأكثرها تأثيراً. وقد هزّت المشاهد التي أظهرت محمد ووالده جمال وهما يحاولان الاحتماء من إطلاق النار ضمير العالم، وأصبحت رمزاً لمعاناة المدنيين الفلسطينيين تحت الاحتلال.

تُظهر الطوابع محمد الدرة برفقة والده، كما تتضمن صورة قبة الصخرة، في ربطٍ واضح بين ذكراه والقضية الفلسطينية والمكانة الرمزية للقدس. ومن خلال هذا الإصدار، عبّر الأردن عن تضامنه مع الشعب الفلسطيني وخلّد ذكرى طفلٍ تحوّل استشهاده إلى رمزٍ إنساني ووطني استنهض مشاعر الملايين في العالم العربي وخارجه.

ولا تمثل هذه المجموعة مجرد إصدار تذكاري، بل تجسد موقف الأردن الرافض للاعتداءات على المدنيين الفلسطينيين ودعمه المستمر للحقوق الفلسطينية. وتُعد من أكثر الإصدارات التذكارية الأردنية الحديثة أهميةً من الناحية السياسية وتأثيراً من الناحية الإنسانية.
