Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This commemorative stamp set celebrates the Iris, Jordan's national flower, featuring the rare Nazareth iris (Iris haynei) discovered in the Ajloun region in spring 2003. The set comprises five stamps and a souvenir sheet, along with an imperforate variant record. Each stamp showcases different close-up views of this distinctive flower, characterized by its dark, almost black petals with intricate spotted patterns and contrasting pale standards (upper petals). The Nazareth iris represents a significant botanical discovery for Jordan, as this species was previously unknown to exist in the kingdom. The stamps display various perspectives of the flower's unique coloration and texture, from detailed views of the heavily spotted falls (lower petals) to elegant portraits showing the complete bloom with its characteristic sword-like leaves. Designed by Syntax and printed by Oriental Press in Bahrain, this issue highlights Jordan's commitment to documenting and celebrating its natural heritage. The discovery of this rare iris species in Dibeen, Ajloun, marked an important addition to Jordan's flora catalog and reinforced the kingdom's botanical diversity.
