Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This commemorative set of two stamps was issued by the Government of Jordan in 1988 to support the preservation and restoration of Sana'a, the historic capital of Yemen. The issue reflects Jordan's commitment to Arab cultural heritage and UNESCO's efforts to protect historic Islamic cities. Sana'a, with its distinctive multi-story tower houses and unique architectural heritage dating back over 2,500 years, was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, just two years before this stamp issue. The stamps feature identical designs showing the ancient city of Sana'a with its characteristic stone buildings, decorated windows, and prominent minaret, all cradled protectively in a pair of white hands symbolizing care and preservation. This visual metaphor emphasizes the international responsibility to safeguard cultural treasures for future generations. The stamps were issued in two denominations - 80 fils and 160 fils - making the commemorative message accessible to different postal needs while raising awareness about the importance of architectural conservation in the Arab world.

أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من طابعين في عام ١٩٨٨ لدعم حماية وترميم صنعاء، العاصمة التاريخية لليمن. تعكس هذه الإصدارة التزام الأردن بالتراث الثقافي العربي وجهود اليونسكو لحماية المدن الإسلامية التاريخية. صنعاء، بمنازلها البرجية متعددة الطوابق وتراثها المعماري الفريد الذي يعود لأكثر من ٢٥٠٠ عام، سُجلت كموقع تراث عالمي لليونسكو في ١٩٨٦، أي قبل عامين فقط من إصدار هذين الطابعين. يحمل الطابعان تصميماً متطابقاً يظهر مدينة صنعاء القديمة بمبانيها الحجرية المميزة ونوافذها المزخرفة ومئذنتها البارزة، وكلها محاطة بحماية يدين بيضاوين ترمزان للعناية والمحافظة. هذا الرمز البصري يؤكد المسؤولية الدولية لحماية الكنوز الثقافية للأجيال القادمة.
