Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This commemorative set of two stamps was issued by the Government of Jordan on May 7, 1987, to highlight the SOS Children's Village in Amman, part of the international SOS Children's Villages organization that provides homes and care for orphaned and abandoned children. The SOS Children's Villages movement, founded in Austria after World War II, established villages worldwide where children could grow up in family-like environments with dedicated caregivers. The Jordanian facility represented an important social welfare initiative, providing vulnerable children with housing, education, and family-style care in the capital city. The 80 fils stamp depicts the village's residential buildings and landscaped grounds, showcasing the pleasant living environment created for the children. The 240 fils stamp features a young child alongside colorful bird motifs, symbolizing the joy, hope, and nurturing atmosphere that the organization sought to provide. This issue reflects Jordan's commitment to child welfare and social development during the 1980s, when the kingdom was expanding its social services and humanitarian programs under King Hussein's leadership.

أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه المجموعة التذكارية المؤلفة من طابعين في السابع من أيار 1987 لتسليط الضوء على قرية الأطفال في عمان التابعة لمنظمة قرى الأطفال الدولية التي توفر المنازل والرعاية للأطفال الأيتام والمهجورين. تأسست حركة قرى الأطفال في النمسا بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية وأنشأت قرى في جميع أنحاء العالم حيث يمكن للأطفال أن يكبروا في بيئات أسرية مع مقدمي رعاية مخصصين. مثلت المنشأة الأردنية مبادرة رعاية اجتماعية مهمة وفرت للأطفال المعرضين للخطر السكن والتعليم والرعاية الأسرية في العاصمة. يصور الطابع فئة 80 فلساً المباني السكنية والأراضي المنسقة للقرية، بينما يظهر الطابع فئة 240 فلساً طفلاً صغيراً إلى جانب رسوم طيور ملونة ترمز للفرح والأمل والجو الحنون الذي سعت المنظمة لتوفيره.
