Al-Sahaba Tombs
أضرحة الصحابة
Issued by the Government of Jordan on December 5, 1984, this commemorative set honors the burial sites of the Sahaba (companions of Prophet Muhammad) located in Jordan. The six stamps feature various tombs and mausoleums of prominent Islamic figures who played crucial roles in early Islamic history and the conquest of the Levant. Each stamp displays architectural views of the sacred sites alongside decorative Islamic calligraphy and ornamental borders. The featured companions include military leaders and early converts who died in Jordan during the Islamic expansion, making their tombs important pilgrimage destinations. The stamps show El-Hareth bin Omeir El-Azdi, Dirar bin El-Azwar, Shurahbil bin Hasna, Abu Obaidah Amer bin El-Jarrah, Mu'ath bin Jabal, Zaid bin Haretha, Abdullah bin Rawaha, Amer bin Abi Waqqas, and Ja'afar bin Abu Taleb. The set was also produced in imperforate versions, possibly as proofs. This issue reflects Jordan's role as guardian of Islamic heritage sites and emphasizes the historical significance of these religious monuments within the Hashemite Kingdom.
