Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This commemorative set of five stamps was issued by the Government of Jordan in 1985 to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Jerash Festival, one of Jordan's most significant cultural events. The Jerash Festival, established in 1980, takes place annually in the ancient Roman city of Jerash, transforming its archaeological ruins into a spectacular venue for international arts and culture. The festival showcases traditional Jordanian heritage alongside international performances in the dramatic setting of Roman theaters and ancient colonnades. Each stamp captures a different aspect of the festival: the opening ceremony from 1980, traditional dancers performing against the ancient backdrop, a men's choir at the Roman theatre, and the royal patronage provided by King Hussein and Queen Noor. The festival has become a cornerstone of Jordan's cultural calendar, attracting artists and visitors from across the Arab world and beyond. أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من خمسة طوابع في عام 1985 للاحتفال بالذكرى الخامسة لتأسيس مهرجان جرش، أحد أهم الأحداث الثقافية في الأردن. تأسس مهرجان جرش عام 1980 ويقام سنوياً في مدينة جرش الرومانية القديمة، حيث تتحول آثارها الأثرية إلى مسرح رائع للفنون والثقافة العالمية. يعرض المهرجان التراث الأردني التقليدي إلى جانب العروض العالمية في إطار درامي من المسارح الرومانية والأعمدة الأثرية. يصور كل طابع جانباً مختلفاً من المهرجان: حفل الافتتاح من عام 1980، والراقصين التقليديين يؤدون أمام الخلفية الأثرية، وجوقة رجال في المسرح الروماني، والرعاية الملكية من الملك حسين والملكة نور. أصبح المهرجان ركيزة أساسية في التقويم الثقافي الأردني، ويجذب الفنانين والزوار من جميع أنحاء العالم العربي وخارجه.
