This commemorative set of five stamps was issued by the Government of Jordan on December 13, 1982, to mark the birth centenary of King Abdullah I ibn Hussein, the founder of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Abdullah I (1882-1951) established the Emirate of Transjordan in 1921 and became its first ruler, later becoming King when Jordan gained independence in 1946. Each stamp in the set features an identical design showing a profile portrait of King Abdullah I wearing traditional white headwear, alongside a circular inset image of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. This pairing symbolically connects Jordan's founding monarch with the holy city of Jerusalem, reflecting the Hashemite family's historical role as custodians of Islamic holy sites. The stamps are differentiated by their border colors - pink, purple, brown, green, and blue - corresponding to the different denominations of 10, 25, 40, 50, and 100 fils respectively. The Arabic inscription at the top identifies this as commemorating the centenary of the founder King Abdullah, while English text at the bottom reads "The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan." This issue honors the legacy of Jordan's founding father and the continued Hashemite connection to Jerusalem.
أصدرت الحكومة الأردنية هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من خمسة طوابع في 13 ديسمبر 1982 بمناسبة الذكرى المئوية لميلاد الملك عبد الله الأول بن الحسين، مؤسس المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية. أسس الملك عبد الله الأول (1882-1951) إمارة شرق الأردن عام 1921 وأصبح أول حاكم لها، ثم ملكاً عندما نالت الأردن استقلالها عام 1946. يحمل كل طابع في المجموعة نفس التصميم الذي يُظهر صورة جانبية للملك عبد الله الأول مرتدياً الكوفية البيضاء التقليدية، إلى جانب صورة دائرية لقبة الصخرة في القدس. يرمز هذا الربط إلى الصلة بين الملك المؤسس والمدينة المقدسة، مما يعكس الدور التاريخي للأسرة الهاشمية كحراس للمقدسات الإسلامية. تتميز الطوابع بألوان إطاراتها المختلفة - الوردي والبنفسجي والبني والأخضر والأزرق - حسب فئاتها المختلفة من 10 و25 و40 و50 و100 فلس. تكرم هذه الإصدارية إرث مؤسس الأردن والصلة الهاشمية المستمرة بالقدس.
