This commemorative set of three stamps issued by the Ministry of Post & Communications celebrates the remarkable Byzantine-era mosaics discovered at Umm Ar-Rasas (Kastron Mefa'a), an archaeological site in Jordan dating from the 5th to 7th centuries CE. The ancient settlement, later designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004, contains some of the finest mosaic floors in the region, particularly within the Church of Saint Stephen. These intricate mosaics feature detailed depictions of animals, trees, architectural elements, and geometric patterns that showcase the sophisticated artistry of Byzantine craftsmen. The 100 fils stamp displays mosaic panels with animals and trees alongside circular medallions, the 200 fils presents an elaborate mosaic map featuring city buildings and Greek inscriptions, and the 300 fils showcases a complete ornate mosaic panel with geometric and floral motifs. This philatelic tribute highlights Jordan's rich archaeological heritage and the exceptional preservation of these early Christian artistic treasures.
تحتفي هذه المجموعة التذكارية المكونة من ثلاثة طوابع، التي أصدرتها وزارة البريد والاتصالات، بالفسيفساء البيزنطية الرائعة المكتشفة في أم الرصاص (كاسترون ميفعة)، وهو موقع أثري في الأردن يعود إلى القرنين الخامس والسابع الميلاديين. يحتوي هذا الموقع الأثري، الذي أدرج لاحقاً ضمن مواقع التراث العالمي لليونسكو عام 2004، على أجمل أرضيات الفسيفساء في المنطقة، خاصة في كنيسة القديس استفان. تتميز هذه الفسيفساء المعقدة بتصويرها المفصل للحيوانات والأشجار والعناصر المعمارية والأنماط الهندسية التي تعكس براعة الحرفيين البيزنطيين. يعرض طابع المئة فلس لوحات فسيفساء تضم حيوانات وأشجار مع دوائر، ويقدم طابع المئتي فلس خريطة فسيفساء مفصلة تظهر مباني المدن ونقوشاً يونانية، بينما يستعرض طابع الثلاثمئة فلس لوحة فسيفساء كاملة بزخارف هندسية ونباتية.
