Stamps of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

This commemorative set of three stamps and one souvenir sheet was issued by the Government of Jordan in December 1998 to celebrate the 63rd birthday of His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal. King Hussein, who ruled Jordan from 1952 until his death in 1999, was one of the most respected monarchs in the Middle East and a key figure in regional diplomacy and peace efforts. The stamps feature a portrait of King Hussein in military dress uniform surrounded by a laurel wreath, symbolizing victory and honor, alongside a stylized map of Jordan. Each denomination uses different border colors - green for the 100 fils, violet for the 200 fils, and violet blue for the 300 fils stamp. The souvenir sheet presents the same design elements in an imperf format with a gold border and includes a larger regional map context. This issue represents one of the final birthday commemoratives for the beloved monarch, who passed away just two months after this stamp's release, making it particularly significant in Jordanian postal history.
